Barcelona is one of Europes' most popular cities with foreign visitors, particularly because of its organic modernist architecture, most the ideas of just one man, Antonio Gaudi. Two of Gaudis most famous houses can be visited easily from Plaza Catalunya Metro station, walk/cycle up Paseo de Gracia street about 400m from the Plaza, you can see Casa la Pedrera on the right corner near Casa Battlo' on the your left.
If you hire a bike, visiting the two other Gaudi sites, Sagrada Familia and The Parque Guell, is easier and more fun. City bikes available from bicing.com. It is quite posible to see most of Barcelonas' sites of interest in one day, perhaps staying overnight. The Ramblas, Barrio Raval and the contemporary art museum are worth visiting and are also close to Plaza Catalunya Metro.
There are more examples of modernist catalan architecture, particularly Wine Cellars "Bodegas" in Tarragona, on the journey south to Valencia. Antonio Gaudi was born in Reus, Tarragona. The Ebro river and Delta, Taragona. Well worth a visit. San Carles de la Rapita is one of Spains major fishing port and full of great restaurants, if your stopping for lunch. The Ebro delta is a "stopover" for thousands of migrating birds including Flamingos. Paella Rice is grown all over the Delta. Great, long, sandy beaches.
